Locktober Reflection #19
Among men who don’t live locked and chaste, there’s a common belief: the bigger the penis, the better. For us locked bois, however, the opposite often seems to be true – size is not what matters most. Instead, many lockees aim to wear a smaller and more compact cage over time. But how realistic is that goal for all of us – and is smaller really always better?
Anyone who knows me a little by now knows how important a well-fitting cage is to me – finding the perfect size and fit is absolutely essential if you want to practice chastity with this kind of device. (There are, of course, people who choose a cage-less form of chastity for various reasons. They have my utmost respect – it requires even more discipline and willpower than chastity already does for most of us.)
For me personally, chastity only truly became enjoyable once I found the right combination of ring and cage that matched my anatomy and the unique characteristics of my body. Certain factors – like my foreskin and a PA piercing – obviously come with specific considerations.
At the time (early 2024), it wasn’t possible to try on custom cages in person here in Germany, so I ended up exchanging quite a few emails with the support team of KINK3D, a company well-known for their highly customizable 3D-printed designs. I shared photos of some cheap knockoffs I had used before, described my experiences, and answered their questions – and together, we narrowed down what would likely be the best fit. That process led me to a wider model paired with two standard base rings in different sizes.
I was immediately happy with the cage size, since previous models had often felt too tight – especially during longer wear – and I felt that my foreskin needed a bit more room. The wider design was perfect for that. However, I quickly realized that one of the ring sizes was a little too loose: during higher-intensity activities like running, I often experienced “ball slip”, where one testicle would suddenly slip out of the ring. As I now know, this kind of fine-tuning is totally normal – even with the best advice, it takes time and real-life experience to figure out what truly works for you.
With that setup, I was happy and comfortable for several months. I finally had a cage I could wear long-term without restrictions – even at night – and I was able to stay locked permanently despite some early challenges. Over time, I added a few different color and design variants to my collection, though I stuck with the same size combination.
Still, about six months later, I began to wonder whether I should challenge myself and try a smaller cage. Even though I was satisfied with my current setup, part of me felt that, as a good locked boi, I had a kind of duty not to simply stay at the status quo.
Downsizing is a recurring topic in our community. As I mentioned earlier, many follow the principle “the smaller, the better.” Some even aim to wear a completely flat cage – something I personally can’t imagine for myself at this point, but which I find both fascinating and sexy.
By late summer, I noticed that although my current cage still fit well, I was increasingly confident that I could handle a smaller size. At times, it even seemed as if my penis had gotten a little smaller.
[Mini-disclaimer: Of course, it’s worth remembering that this is more about perception than reality. A penis doesn’t actually “shrink” from chastity — it’s made of erectile tissue, not muscle — and healthy blood flow keeps everything intact. Real changes usually result from medical conditions, scarring, or circulation issues, not from wearing a cage. And if you ever notice anything like that, it’s always best to have it checked by a doctor.]
Curious and encouraged by that thought, I decided to try a smaller, more enclosed design with fewer openings – something that matched my evolving preferences. And what can I say… since switching to the smaller size almost a year ago, I feel like I’ve finally found what many affectionately call their “forever cage.” Of course, I still own my larger versions. I haven’t worn them again, but I keep them as reminders of how far I’ve come – and of the journey that brought me here.
So, back to the question at the beginning: is smaller always better? In my view, there’s no universal answer. Just as we all differ in preferences and in how we practice chastity, our bodies and anatomies are unique too. Even something as simple as whether you’re a grower or a shower can influence which cage size feels right for you.
I ultimately chose a smaller cage because it not only looked good but also felt deeply right – as if it were a natural extension of me. And that, I believe, should always be the goal: not chasing the smallest size for its own sake, but finding the one that feels like home. Chastity, after all, isn’t about proving anything to anyone else. It’s about exploring who you are, celebrating the body you live in, and embracing every step of the journey with curiosity, intention, and joy.
